A general theory of luck

John Ravilious 2009

Everyone knows what luck is, it’s just luck isn’t it?  And some people are lucky and others are not.

So what I want to do now is sort of map out how I see what one might call the luck effect, and try and show how it operates.

Now I see humankind as a creature that is capable of self rewarding itself.  And what I think happens with humankind is that something in us sort of watches how we perform, and then rewards success with luck.

And now life and human nature want this process to be secret.  So it works sort of below decks, as it would be just too complicated for us, if we refocused our attention onto the pursuit of luck.  Life is complicated enough as it is.  So this is the luck effect, and it watches us, and then rewards.

And now to change the subject.  You are probably thinking that time goes forwards, and so it is quite impossible for one’s luck factor to change, as there is no way for us to work out our own futures.

But now I am going to say that this is just nonsense, and time does not in fact go forwards, and the fact that it seems to go forwards, is just an illusion.  And further to this, we have within us, a perfectly effective knowledge of what will happen in our lives.  But this information is not given to us, as it would damage our genetic development in human evolution if we knew what was going to happen.

So this now is how I see things, and you may well want to disagree here.  Now with this in mind, I have been conducting some experiments.  And what I have been doing is trying to sort of ‘push’ my mental alert state.  And the results I have got from this, are really quite startling, as I seem to have pushed my luck successfully.  Look, they say, don’t push your luck, but this is what I have been doing, and the tricks I have employed, do seem to work.

I need a change of subject here, as I want to talk about some survey work I did recently.  And what I did was put a notebook in my pocket, and then went into town and looked at how people function.  And what came out of this was the fact that all successful people, like bank managers and business people, have large heads and large noses.  {You can’t do things like this, well I did}.

And so the thought now occurred to me that these could be life’s lucky people.  And the reason they were lucky was because they had effective minds, that we sort of well catered for.

So now my next move was to see if I could do this for my mental state, and so prove my theory that a mind that works properly, is a luckier mind.

Now you may not like what I have to say here, but what I have been doing now is making nose clips, and this is like a small plastic clip, that fits inside my nose.  And now with one of these in position, I can breathe fantastically easily.

Now my hat size is large, (and here I found that I had to keep my legs and feet warm for this to work.  So I purchased some good insoles and some thick socks).  And now the results of doing all this was just incredible.

Now I need to say that I don’t see myself as a lucky person.  I smoked cigarettes for 50 years, and my breathing ability is not at all good.  But nevertheless, with my fully functioning mind, my luck factor is just huge, I never realised it was possible to be this lucky.

And if you want to try something like this, it is possible to test whether you have been successful.  If you have been successful and you manage to breathe properly at night, and also you should wear a hat, then you will have brightly coloured dreams.  Sometimes my dreams are so brightly coloured, that they look like cartoon films on television.

As a note, if one provides air for the brain, and keeps one’s legs warm, then this should be a huge benefit to general health.  And so I guess this will help in the treatment of many disease conditions.
